The ‘John Wick’ Franchise Surpasses $1 Billion in Global Box Office Revenue
Lionsgate’s action-packed “John Wick” franchise has achieved a remarkable feat, crossing the coveted $1 billion mark in global box office revenue. The popular series, starring Keanu Reeves, has amassed a total of $1.011 billion across its four films, solidifying its status as a billion-dollar franchise.
The latest installment, “John Wick: Chapter 4,” has emerged as the highest-grossing film of the franchise, generating an impressive $425 million to date. Despite its hefty $100 million production cost, the movie opened in March to outstanding success, raking in $73.5 million domestically and setting a new record for the franchise.
What sets the “John Wick” franchise apart is its consistent upward trajectory in terms of success. While the first film earned $86.1 million in 2014, it gained popularity through home entertainment, becoming a sleeper hit. The 2017 sequel, “John Wick: Chapter 2,” concluded its theatrical run with $174.3 million. The third film, “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,” which held the title of highest-grossing entry prior to “Chapter 4,” achieved a remarkable global total of $328.3 million.
Chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Joe Drake, expressed his gratitude to the film’s director, Chad Stahelski, and lead actor, Keanu Reeves, as well as producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee. Their commitment to consistently surpassing expectations with each successive film has played a significant role in achieving this incredible milestone. Drake also extended his appreciation to moviegoers worldwide for their unwavering support.
While a fifth “John Wick” adventure has not been officially confirmed by Lionsgate, fans can look forward to “Ballerina,” a spinoff featuring Ana de Armas, which will bring back Reeves and other beloved cast members. The franchise’s continued success serves as a testament to its enduring popularity and the captivating world of the legendary hitman, John Wick.
