To combat this, the Biden-Harris administration has introduced an opportunity for model assessment at the DEFCON 31 AI Village, a forum that brings together researchers and practitioners to explore the latest advances in AI and machine learning. By collaborating with industry leaders such as Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, the government aims to align AI models with established principles and practices, promoting transparency and fairness.
Government Policies for AI Risks and Opportunities
The Office of Management and Budget is drafting policy guidance on the use of AI systems by the U.S. Government, with a focus on equity. To be effective, these policies must include incentives and repercussions rather than being optional guidelines. Comparable to NIST security standards, these policies should become the guiding principles for building AI tools and platforms.
