Stanley Tucci on how Wife Felicity Blunt helped him through ‘Brutal’ Cancer Treatment: ‘I was So Afraid’
Stanley Tucci, the renowned actor known for his roles in films like The Devil Wears Prada and The Hunger Games, has recently opened up about his battle with oral cancer and how his wife, Felicity Blunt, helped him through his treatment. In a candid interview with Willie Geist on Sunday Sitdown, Tucci shared the story of his cancer diagnosis and the grueling treatment that followed.
Tucci revealed that when he first learned he was sick, he was terrified, as he had already lost his late wife, Kate Spath-Tucci, to breast cancer in 2009. He and his late wife had traveled around the world to find a cure for her illness, but unfortunately, she had passed away. Tucci said that when he was diagnosed with cancer, he was completely shocked and scared, as he had already seen firsthand how devastating the disease can be.
The actor then spoke about the harsh treatments he underwent, including high-dose radiation and chemotherapy, which he described as “brutal” and “awful.” He lost 35 pounds and had a feeding tube for six months, and everything he ate tasted and smelled terrible. He said that it took months for him to be able to eat properly again and taste food like before.
However, Tucci praised his wife for being his rock during the difficult time. He said that Felicity was very insistent about him going through with the treatment, even though he was initially reluctant. He admitted that she had to drag him, kicking and screaming, but ultimately, he realized that he wouldn’t be around if he hadn’t undergone the treatment.
Tucci further added that his wife was incredible, both during his treatment and after. He said that her support and love were instrumental in his recovery and that he couldn’t have made it through without her. Blunt, who is a literary agent, is the sister of Tucci’s co-star in The Devil Wears Prada, Emily Blunt.
Despite the hardships he faced, Tucci completed his treatment in 2018 and has been in remission ever since. He is currently busy with his work, appearing in the Prime Video show Citadel and preparing for the third season of his travel show, Searching For Italy, which he started making after he was able to enjoy food again.
Tucci’s experience with cancer and his wife’s unwavering support serve as a reminder of the importance of having loved ones during difficult times. Cancer can be a scary and isolating experience, but with the support of family and friends, it is possible to make it through. Tucci’s story is a testament to the power of love and determination, and he hopes that his experience can inspire others going through similar struggles to keep fighting and never give up hope.
