Imran Khan, PTI Chairman, Arrested by Rangers Outside Islamabad High Court in Al-Qadir Trust Case: Implications and Ongoing Developments

Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was booked and taken into custody by Rangers outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The arrest was made as Khan had gone to the court seeking bail in multiple FIRs registered against him. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) apprehended the former prime minister from the premises of the IHC.

Rangers, the law enforcement agency, arrested Imran Khan and transferred him to a black Vigo. This development comes after Khan’s removal from power in April the previous year, following a parliamentary vote of confidence. Since then, he has been facing numerous cases, including charges related to terrorism and corruption.

Inspector General of Police, Islamabad, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan confirmed the arrest, stating that Imran Khan was taken into custody in the Al-Qadir Trust case. He assured that the situation was under control. However, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry took to Twitter to allege that Khan had been “abducted” from the court premises and that lawyers and people present were subjected to “torture.”

Another PTI leader, Murad Saeed, claimed that Imran Khan was not only arrested but also subjected to torture. He called upon all party workers and supporters to take to the streets in response to these actions.

Following Imran Khan’s arrest, the Chief Justice of the IHC, Aamer Farooq, took notice of the matter and summoned the Islamabad Inspector General and the interior secretary within 15 minutes. He also instructed the Additional Attorney General to appear before the court immediately and investigate the parties responsible for the arrest. CJ Farooq stated that if an inquiry were to be conducted, action would also be taken against the prime minister and ministers.

The Chief Justice further sought clarification on the grounds for the arrest, asking in which case it was made. The Islamabad advocate general requested an extension of 15 minutes, but the request was denied, and he was ordered to appear within the given time frame.

The arrest of Imran Khan outside the IHC has raised concerns and led to immediate action from the court. As the situation unfolds, the public and political observers await further updates on the case and its implications for the country’s political landscape.
